Sources & methodology
Bitcoin Switzerland is an independent initiative with a nonprofit purpose. It connects people to Swiss Bitcoin organizations, professional services, local communities and places mapped as accepting Bitcoin. It is not a registered-charity claim, an official government service or an endorsement of any listed business.
What the 593 listings represent
The directory contains 121 organizations and specialist services and 472 merchant locations. A chain can have several separate premises; each location has its own address and source. These are 593 listings, not 593 unrelated companies.
Organizations and specialist services
Summaries describe each entry’s Swiss connection and Bitcoin relevance, based on public organizational websites, university pages, organizer directories or identified supporting publications with source-review dates shown on individual listings. An organization may also work in other fields or assets. Only its Bitcoin relevance is described here. Each listing links to its source; regional meetup groups are distinct from formal associations.
Merchant locations
Merchant records come from BTC Map and OpenStreetMap. Only named locations with an address, a city and an explicit Bitcoin-acceptance tag were included. Coordinates were filtered against Switzerland’s national boundary. Duplicate records at the same address and overlaps with the organization directory were removed. The selection prioritizes the latest mapping verification dates; the included dates range from 22 March 2025 to 12 September 2026.
“Map verified” is the date recorded by the mapping community. We have not visited or contacted every merchant. It is not the date of an independent audit by this website. Confirm that Bitcoin payments are available before visiting, especially when a record is older than a year. Lightning and on-chain labels appear only when the mapping source explicitly records support.
Sources, corrections and reuse
Merchant listings link to the underlying BTC Map entry and OpenStreetMap object so the source can be inspected or corrected. Websites shown for merchants are supplied by those map records. Public-source reviews do not establish financial authorization, legal qualifications, solvency or service quality. For organization corrections, consult the linked source; a direct submission form is not currently available.
Merchant data © OpenStreetMap contributors, accessed through BTC Map. The adapted merchant dataset is offered under the Open Database License (ODbL). Download the merchant dataset. Geographic filtering uses geoBoundaries data derived from the Swiss Federal Office of Topography, swisstopo. These sources do not endorse this directory.
Events and privacy
The calendar uses dates published by organizers. Calendar files mark event dates; confirm session times, registration requirements and ticket availability with the organizer. Past entries are automatically hidden on the homepage. The site uses aggregate page-view and referral measurement without cookies or visitor identifiers. It has no advertising trackers, account creation or payment collection. Read the measurement policy. External sites have their own policies; standard hosting access logs may still be recorded by the hosting provider.
Editorial principles
Swiss presence. Bitcoin relevance. No paid placement or affiliate links. Organizations and merchant locations are shown in separate collections, alphabetically within each collection. This is an evolving snapshot, not a complete register or a promise of current payment acceptance.
Editorial responsibility
Bitcoin Switzerland publishes under the collective name “Bitcoin Switzerland editorial desk”. This attribution identifies the publisher of these guides. A named individual editor and direct public contact are not currently listed. The initiative does not claim registered charitable status.
